Reliving Old Memories

Today i found myself looking back at posts of old - recalling the said emotions I felt at the time of writing.  I think there's a certain nostalgia about looking back. inspiration even. an inkling to write again, despite quite a long hiatus.

it made me ask and wonder who still lurks on the pages of xanga. and if the audience that was once there still remains.

are you still here? say hi if you are.

Help a Needy Family

As many of you know I work at The Salvation Army in Richmond. Every summer we send a group of kids from low-income families to experience a week away at camp. The kids get to experience new things like canoeing, rock climbing, skits and all sorts of fun activities. This is great for the parents as well as they get a little break from juggling looking after their kids and all the other aspects of life.

Because our main goal in sending kids to camp is for them to have an unforgettable experience. The Salvation Army tries to take the financial burden away from the parents, allowing them to request assistance. Each family has a different story...

Let me tell you about Justin...
Justin is an only child. His parents came in excited for an opportunity for their son to have a fun summer away from the TV with new friends instead of being on his own. Unfortunately Justin's dad recently got hurt on the job, and worker's compensation isn't being helpful. With Justin's mom only working part time... they are limited in what they can spend on things outside of the neccessities but would love an opportunity for Justin to attend camp.

There are many other stories, with one thing in common... the parents love their kids and would love for them to have an awesome summer experience. Our goal this summer is to provide as much assistance as possible to make this a reality for the 40 kids we will be sending to Camp Sunrise in Langdale (Sunshine Coast).

It costs $260 to send a child to camp. But any donation helps as the amount a family can afford varries on their situation. If you would like to help. Please contact me by sending a me a message, or calling me at the office (604) 277-2424. We are able to issue tax receipts for donations over $20.   It would be quite exciting to hear about a group of coworkers together rallying an office together to help a family.
